Q & A with PG Kain

August 14, 2007

Q: Why do you have a Q and A page?

A: Well, a lot of other writers have a Q&A page and even though I write books about overcoming peer pressure the truth is I'm still working on that issue.

Q: How did you come up with the idea for Dumped by Popular Demand?

A: Well, I was thinking about all the miserable things that happened to me when I was in school like not getting asked to a dance or being picked last for every athletic team that existed. I started thinking about what type of situation could exist that would make you actually WANT to have those things happen to you. So I started thinking about a situation where a girl would actually want to get dumped by the cutest boy at school. Then I imagined that the back cover could say: "Why in the world does Dorie want the coolest, cutest boy at school to dump her before the school dance?" and I thought why does she. Then I wrote the book to answer that question.

Q: Are your characters based on real people?

A: I think I am supposed to say, "No. I use my creativity and imagination." The truth is every character is either based on someone I know or knew.

Q: Which character in the book is based on you?

A: Dixie.

Q: Do you love science as much as Dorie?

A: Absolutely!

Q: Do you write everyday?

A: No, but I think about the story and the characters every day.

Q: What do you do when you are not writing?

A: I teach amazing, smart, funny students at NYU and play with our cat Biscuit who we are currently referring to as Lord Voldemort since he has a pronounced evil streak.

Q: How many Dorie Dilts books will there be.

A: I don't know. At least two. Then I have to get a graduate degree in some science discipline because Dorie is so much smarter than I am that it's getting hard to keep up with her.

Q: Do you do school visits?

A: I love to do school visits. I like talking about writing books but I also like talking about science. I love talking about both. If you want to schedule a visit go to the Contact page and send me an email

Q: You didn't answer the question I have. If I email you a question will you post the answer here?

A: Yep. If you have a question about the Dorie Dilts series or something else you would like to ask. Email me.
