Q & A

Q: Why do you have a Q and A page?
A: Well, a lot of other writers have a Q&A page and even though I write books about overcoming peer pressure the truth is I'm still working on that issue.

Q: How did you come up with the idea for Commercial Breaks?
A: I have been on hundreds and hundreds of commercial auditions. When I was in graduate school this was a way to pay for my education. I was always fascinated by the fact that I knew every person in NYC who looked a little bit like me since we all auditioned for the same parts. Some were a little taller or a little older or a little wider but we all were the same "type." The first book in the series was originally called "The Sea of Me" because Brit was obsessed with the fact that all of the girls on the audition circuit tried to look like her in some way.

Q: Do you have any audition tips??
A: Do I ever? In fact I have a page on this website and a whole blog dedicated to this? You can find it HERE.

Q: Do you have any tips for young writers??
A: Yep. You can find writing tips HERE.

Q: How did you come up with the idea for Dumped by Popular Demand?
A: Well, I was thinking about all the miserable things that happened to me when I was in school like not getting asked to a dance or being picked last for every athletic team that existed. I started thinking about what type of situation could exist that would make you actually WANT to have those things happen to you. So I started thinking about a situation where a girl would actually want to get dumped by the cutest boy at school. Then I imagined that the back cover could say: "Why in the world does Dorie want the coolest, cutest boy at school to dump her before the school dance?" and I thought why does she. Then I wrote the book to answer that question.

Q: Are your characters based on real people?
A: I think I am supposed to say, "No. I use my creativity and imagination." The truth is every character is either based on someone I know or knew.

Q: Which character in the book is based on you?
A: Dixie in the Dorie Dilts series.

Q: Do you write everyday?
A: No, but I think about the story and the characters every day.

Q: What do you do when you are not writing?
A: I teach amazing, smart, funny students at NYU and play with our cat Biscuit who we are currently referring to as Lord Voldemort since he has a pronounced evil streak.

Q: What would you be doing if you hadn't become a writer?
A: I would like to be the person than names new shades of nail polishes. Here are my three favorite lipstick/nail polish names that I have come up with.
I just need to find the shades to match the names; “Midnight in Paris,” “Pinky Dinky Don’t” and “Nice to Meet You Magenta.”

Q: How many Dorie Dilts books will there be? How many Commercial Breaks?
A: I don't know.

Q: Do you do school visits?
A: Yes! I love to do school visits. I like talking about writing books but I also like talking about science or performance arts. I love talking about anything. If you want to schedule a visit go to the VISITS page and send me an email

Q: You didn't answer the question I have. If I email you a question will you post the answer here?
A: Yep.You can find my information on the CONTACT page.
